0 Comments Published by KL Ocs Kid on Wednesday, July 18, 2007 at 3:50 PM.Voronin gave Liverpool the perfect start when he produced a cool finish after intercepting a poor pass and rounding the goalkeeper.
Kevin Schindler equalised two minutes later but John Arne Riise produced a thunderbolt to restore the Liverpool lead with a free-kick from distance.
Fifteen minutes into the second half Ukrainian Voronin, a free transfer from Bayer Leverkusen, put the game beyond Werder with a cunning finish after a brilliant pass from Xabi Alonso.
Torres replaced Voronin before Hugo Almeida's late consolation for Werder. Babel and Yossi Benayoun were also introduced as second-half substitutes.
West Ham signing Julien Faubert could miss the start of the season after being carried off with an ankle injury during his side's game against Sigma Olomouc in Austria.
Faubert, a £6 million signing from Bordeaux, suffered a nasty blow to his ankle and left the ground with a brace around his leg.
To make matters worse for West Ham, they slumped to a 1-0 defeat against the Czech side.
Michael Owen scored his first Newcastle goal in 19 months as Sam Allardyce's reign began with a 3-1 victory at Hartlepool.
Owen, who last found the net for his club at West Ham on Dec 17 2005, converted James Troisi's 58th-minute cross.
Shola Ameobi scored Newcastle's other goals.
Nicolas Anelka steered Bolton into Saturday's final of the Peace Cup in South Korea with two goals in a 2-1 victory against La Liga side Racing Santander.
The France striker rediscovered his scoring instincts in a battling performance by Bolton who hit back in the second half after Albendea had given Racing the lead in the 26th minute.
Anelka equalised in the 58th minute with a close-range finish following a surging run by Ricardo Vaz Te. Seven minutes later Anelka scored the winner after good work by James Sinclair.
