CARLOS TEVEZ has turned down a move to Inter Milan – as Liverpool keep tabs on his position in case their move for Fernando Torres falls down. The Argentinian team-mate of Reds’ midfielder Javier Mascherano had spoken enthusiastically about a move to Serie A only 24 hours previously. But the Italian champions imposed a deadline for Tevez to make a decision, and the player baulked. The Argentina international, who is currently in Venezuela for his country’s Copa America campaign, is keen to remain in the Premier League. A statement from Tevez’s representative Kia Joorabchian, said: “Inter put a deadline on the decision and Carlos’ heart is really in the Premier League, so he was not prepared to meet that cut-off point.” West Ham are keen to keep him and are involved in negotiations about his future, but Reds boss Rafa Benitez has also revealed that Tevez was on a short-list of his potential striking targets. Joorabchian, who heads up Media Sports Investments, revealed reports that Tevez has been offered more than £100,000 a week by the Hammers to stay are “absolutely not true”. “He has not been offered that sum of money to stay, but it is true we are still talking and hope to come to some arrangement.” Juventus striker David Trezeguet, meanwhile, has signed a new deal, after declaring he spurned interest from Manchester United and Liverpool. The 29-year-old France striker has penned a new deal tying him to the Turin giants until June 2011. He said: “My father and agent told me I had other propositions from ambitious clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool and Barcelona. “But as soon as Juventus showed their desire to keep me, I accepted immediately.” Trezeguet, who helped the club regain their Serie A status at the first attempt following their demotion for match-fixing, was linked with a move away after manager Didier Deschamps departed to be replaced by Claudio Ranieri. "I didn't want to leave Juve but I needed to get reassured by the officials," Trezeguet added. |
