Liverpool have sold Mark Gonzalez to Real Betis for a fee of approximately £4.2 million.
Mark has been officially unveiled along with three other signings at Betis by new boss Hector Cuper. Rafa Benitez had tracked Mark Gonzalez for a while before his arrival at Anfield last summer. He was originally signed from Albacete in October 2005 for around £3 million, but after problems gaining a work permit he spent the 2005/06 season on loan in La Liga - initially with Albacete and then with Real Sociedad.
The player began his career at Liverpool in the summer of 2006 but failed to make the necessary impact at Anfield.
He found it difficult to settle both on and off the pitch and suffered to some extent with injuries. He made a total of 37 appearances for Liverpool (most of them from off the bench) - scoring three goals.
The sale reduces Liverpool’s net summer spending to £16 million.
We wish Mark Gonzalez all the best in his career.
