Graham Arnold has revealed a master plan designed to give the Socceroos their first major honour.
The national coach will ask wing wizard Harry Kewell to play in a central attacking role, behind captain Mark Viduka, at the AFC Asian Cup.
Arnold said he was convinced the fit-again Liverpool talisman would be just the man to break Australia's goal drought and provide the team with the spark to conquer Asia.
“I want Kewell to play in a central attacking role at the top of the diamond, just behind Viduka,” Arnold said.
“With Marco Bresciano on the left and Mile Sterjovski on the right providing the service and Kewell playing off Viduka in the hole, I am confident that we will solve our scoring problem at the Asian Cup."
“In other words I want Kewell to be a finisher not a provider.”
This renewed Viduka-Kewell partnership of sorts will bring back memories of the rampant Leeds side of seven years ago when the two Aussies terrorised the world's best defences with their lethal cocktail of finesse, flamboyance and firepower.
This will be Arnold's first tournament as senior coach and he is taking nothing for granted in an effort to taste success with the Socceroos.
Australia are in Bangkok-based Group A comprising of co-host Thailand, Iraq and Oman, the Socceroos' first opponent on July 8.
