WE have got to be more ruthless if we are going to challenge for the title this season. We should have been cruising with the amount of chances we created at Villa Park but as usual we were wasteful in front of goal. Until Stevie G stepped up to score a fantastic winner, all we had to show for our efforts was a lucky own goal and we nearly paid the price. We gave away a silly penalty and Pennant could easily have been sent off for his two idiotic challenges. There is plenty to improve on. Sam Elly, Aigburth
WE almost threw it away but it's a good start for us. We were worthy winners and it would have been harsh on us if Villa had scraped a draw. I'm sure once the new lads settle in we'll improve but we can't expect Stevie G to bail us out every game. Steve Kembery, Liverpool BABEL looked very good when he came on against Villa and played with real passion and enthusiasm. I can see why people compare him to Thierry Henry. He's obviously not as good as him yet but he likes to cut inside and is very direct. He's a real athlete and posed a real threat. He really put the fear into the full-back and that's what we need. Tom Baker, Anfield BABEL was a vast improvement on Pennant when he came on and I hope he starts against Chelsea. He does the unexpected like the turn and snap-shot which the Villa defence never saw coming. Powerful, direct and not afraid to shoot on sight - the complete opposite to Emile Heskey. Good start from the young lad. Lee Hobbs, Liverpool I THOUGHT Alvaro Arbeloa did a great job shackling Agbonlahor against Villa. He didn't put a step wrong and is getting better and better. His English has improved and I could hear him being so much more vocal than he was last season which is great. Rafa has obviously seen what he wants from him this season and he will get lots of games. If Rafa wants to man mark someone this season then AA is the man. Danny Beazley, Liverpool |
