Villa boss Martin O'Neill is ready to break the British transfer record for a goalkeeper with the figure reported to be in the region of £10 million after the England player confirmed yesterday that both clubs had come to an agreement.
"The clubs have agreed that if everyone is happy, my move will be made permanent and I would welcome it," said Carson, who has failed to cement his place in manager Rafael Benitez's plans since his arrival at Anfield from Leeds United in 2005.
