TODAY the ECHO demands a better deal for thousands of Liverpool fans facing Champions League heartache.

UEFA has given the Reds and AC Milan only 17,000 tickets each for supporters who want to travel to the final in Athens on May 23.

But a further 20,000 tickets will be used for corporate purposes in a ground with a capacity of 63,000.

Fans who have been to seven Champions League games this season will be guaranteed tickets.

The rest will be divided up between season ticket holders, fan-card holders and members of the Auto Cup scheme who have six Champions League game attendances whether home or away.

Reds fan Robin Bamford, 23, from Southport said: “In a stadium that can hold over 60,000 people, how is it fair that the majority of fans who have paid time and time again aren’t rewarded for their loyalty?

“The club is not at fault here, but I imagine they’ll be taking the stick for this – it’s a completely idiotic approach.”

LFC chief executive Rick Parry said: “We asked if we could have more tickets and at least we could control the process.

“Again, sadly the answer was ‘no’ and I don’t think they’ll be changing their position.”
